🕯️ A bit of history…
Halloween has its roots in an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain, celebrated over 2,000 years ago in Ireland. At that time, this night marked the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of winter. People believed that the spirits of the dead returned to visit the living. To welcome them, the Celts lit bonfires and wore frightening costumes.
When the tradition spread throughout Europe and then to America, it gradually transformed into Halloween — a contraction of All Hallows’ Eve, the eve of All Saints’ Day.
🎃 Pumpkins and Treats!
The famous pumpkin lantern, or Jack-o’-lantern, comes from an Irish legend. A man named Jack is said to have tricked the devil and was condemned to wander eternally with a lantern carved out of a turnip… Upon arriving in America, Irish immigrants replaced the turnip with the pumpkin, which was easier to carve and tastier!
Today, Halloween is a celebration of creativity and sharing: we decorate, we cook, we have fun — and we savor every moment!
